Someone (a local Russian club, from whose e-mails I've been trying to unsubscribe for years) sent me the above t-shirt design. What do I say to that? Duh!
(Not "da", but "duh". Well, "da" too.)
[For people without a sense of humor, the above is a joke. I don't necessarily advocate for people — especially chassidish people — to start driving German cars or wearing Italian clothes.]

I didn't know Russian was a state of being.
It's not. It's a state of outlook on life. A derech.
ahh.
You mean "daaaah"?
No, I'm not Russian.
All Lubavitchers are Russian.
Well, everyone is entitled to their own fallacies.
Just see this. Nu? (Also a Russian word, btw.)
Cute.
And true.
Of Russians.
And Lubavitchers.
As I said, earlier, everyone is entitled to their fallacies.
Well, I am sure "real" Lubavitchers like Mottel or e would agree.
They would agree that everyone is entitled to their own fallacies? Probably.
And that all Lubavitchers are to some degree Russian.
Highly unlikely. e and Mottel rarely agree with fallacies.
Which is why they would agree with me.
Well, if you want to add this fallacy onto your previous one, who am I to stop you?
Calling things fallacies is not an argument. Btw, the list I posted is mostly about Jewish Russians. Lehavdil, Russian Russians are quite different.
With some people, it is impossible to argue- the only thing to do is to smile.
Can't argue with truth.
Which is exactly why you have ceased to argue with me many a time.
In fact, every time.
Most cases that I have seized responding is because there were no new arguments to respond to, and I have stuff to do in my life.
(ceased)
Excuses, excuses.
Yes.
No.
Maybe
so.
Anon took my comment.
trs+pc: you guys are bloody nuts.
e: why not?
don't say something if you're ashamed to have people know you've said it.
why not? Why not what?
re: ashamed: my comment was not for a mixed audience, just you and trs. There is a difference between being ashamed and decorum.
re: why not: why not the french thing? Nothing unchassidish about that. V’dal.
umm. perhaps one who has gone to chassan classes will want to elaborate.
How do you know who anon is?
e: We aim to amuse.
You know how I know. (Unless there was a mistake in time stamps.)
Do I know this person?
Just because the person cannot stay anonymous from me doesn’t mean she should not stay anonymous from you.
Oops. I didn’t mean to remove the comment about S"A and Rema. Whatever. Maybe it’s Hashem’s way of telling us to drop the subject. Of course, you don’t believe in Hashem, so blame it on Freud (lehavdil).
Doesn't shulchan aruch+rema say that you can pish with tefillin on?
The question is, what can life teach you that chosson classes can not?
e: good point. And yet, there are areas to be machmir in and to be meikel in.
TRS: see the title of the post.
Duh.
dah?
Ita vero.
not all people would say lubavitchers are russian - some people might say they are hippies for example.
Real Lubavitch chassidim are Russian. A lot of Lubavitch pseudo-chassidim are hippies. Just because you wear a hat and have a beard doesn’t mean you’re a chossid.
e: to answer what you said, it’s all about kavanah.
wat does mean your a chosid?
What did the Rebbe say?
Ita vero can be the name of a person. Ita=yiddish name; Vero=Russian name.
Why don't you write "eta vero"?
The Russian name is Vera. It comes from the same word and means “faith”. In English it is also present in such words as veracity or verification.
Ita vero is in Latin.
well he certainly didnt say anything about being russian - not that i have heard about anyway.
admittedly i dont think he mentioned anything about being hippie, im just saying what some people might say.
who might those "some people" be?
im sure youv read memoirs. do the charachters present to you a more of a typical russian, or a hippie?
This is true. They were all about love.
Actually, “What did the Rebbe say?” was my answer to what makes one a chossid. If a Jew asks this question and uses the answer as guidance in life, he is a chossid.
Russians are also about love. But tempered with gevurah and common sense. Hippies are about love without boundaries and seichel. Read the beginning chapters of Kuntres U’mayon. That’s Chabad. Stopping while driving to let a car in front of you get out of a drive way (while there are 50 cars behind you waiting) is Chagas.
“What did the Rebbe say?” being the true and only answer - i agree with you completely.
therefore i think a person can be russian or hippie or any other style and still be lubavitch. none is more right than the other.
its like the students of R' Akiva.
as long as you dont say, ONLY russians are lubavitch.
We are approaching the point where I have to defend seriously something I said as a joke. But seriously speaking, you’re right, but there is a level of Russianness in Chassidus Chabad, which is unspoken. And if you’re a Lubavitcher Chossid but don’t have it, you’re missing something from the “oral tradition” of Chabad Chassidus.
Having said that, if it’s allowed to be lost, maybe it’s not so integral/important, and such is h"p.
well this is where i would disagree, becouse i think there is more hippieness in lubavitch (originally, actually before hippies even existed) than russianess.
Define hippiness and Russianness.
