Driving lessons

Now that we are on the subject…

I was thinking of this movie yesterday in the traffic court. Also: people have lamest excuses. Don’t you think the magistrate has heard “I normally never speed, but I had to pick up my daughter from day care” before? The only break from monotomy was an elderly gentleman who, after telling his story for five minutes and being found not responsible, told the magistrate that the window in the court room is open.

(And since you’re asking: “not responsible”.)

I was just in traffic court a few weeks ago too, with very good results. Fighting the good fight! What'd they get you for?

No inspection sticker. More of a waste of time than anything. (Although, before the ticket and the court there was a bit of a story with bureaucracy.)

Yes, it's a waste of time. But it also depends on the merits of the case and how the statute is worded (as you already know from my Cell phone post). At least in NY, it's also a two step process if you want to fight it at all. You have to go one night for arraignment ("Guilty," "Not Guilty" or "Guilty with an explanation...") And then you have to come back another night for either conferences with the prosecutor and approval of any plea deal through the judge or for a trial. It's a big rigamarole.

Whatever crazy things people do on the road in the US, you can trust people in Europe to do something even crazier.

Do the thought police hang out in the crawlingaxe comments? (Warning to pregnant women, girl scouts, products of the (any) nanny state and the otherwise faint of heart: Crude stereotyping ahead.)

I have this little game I like to play. When I see a driver abusing the privilege of the left lane I do a quick appraisal of the vehicle and region, then guess the sex and ethnicity of the driver. I score in the 90+ percentiall every time.

No thought police.

I like to play the same game, although more subconsciously.
