Rabbi Gottlieb: “What makes us what we are?”

Check out Rabbi Gottlieb’s book on the reasons we know that Judaism is true. His collection of audio shiurim is also very good. A brilliant example of common sense in modern Judaism. Can’t say I agree with everything, but it is always very enjoyable and in the vast majority of cases very illuminating.

You think Rabbi Gottlieb is good and brilliant?? He's the kind of pseudo-intellectual kook that is driving me away from yiddishkeit. :-(

Although I disagree with a number of things he says (e.g., on Evolution and some things on Kabbala), I think we need more people like him in modern Judaism — people able to explain ideas in Judaism using logic.

Initially, he attracted my attention by the best presentation of Kuzari argument I’ve seen so far.

I am always suspicious of someone’s intellectual capacities when he or she says the she is being “driven away” from something. People are not cattle. We have capacity to judge for ourselves and make intelligent decisions based on facts and logic, not authority.

On the other hand, if you want to see real pseudo-intellectual kooks, visit local University’s humanities or social sciences department.
